We study so much else in the medical field and we have yet to put together a few good studies on spinal immobilization? The EMS community needs to push for more research on the topic. I believe spinal immobilization has it’s place but is over used in EMS. A big reason that spinal immobilization is over used is that we our taught in EMT class that ANYONE with neck or back pain needs a cervical collar and a backboard. It is also a legal aspect, whether right or wrong it is the standard of care in EMS. Don’t use correct spinal immobilization and not only fear being sued but losing your licence. Great topic to bring up on the podcast, this was my first podcast I listened to on this site and I am excited to listen to more. Really awesome job!!!
